Stylohyoid Ligament Syndrome –Solving the riddle with 3D Computed Tomography
نویسندگان
چکیده
Orofacial pain can be associated with stylohyiod ligament calcification or enlargement of styloid process. Calcification or ossification of the stylohyoid ligament is infrequent, often incidental finding on radiographs, however when the source of pain is from the styloid process or calcified stylohyoid ligaments it is referred to as Eagle's syndrome. This case report discusses the pain pattern, clinical presentation, radiologic findings of stylohyoid ligament syndrome.

Assessment of stylohyoid ligament in patients with Eagle’s syndrome and patients with asymptomatic elongated styloid process: A cone-beam computed tomography study
BACKGROUND AND AIM: This study was performed to evaluate and compare the calcification patterns of the stylohyoid ligament in Eagle’s syndrome (ES) patients, and asymptomatic patients with elongated styloid process (SP) via cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).METHODS: A total of 52 CBCT images in two symptomatic (ES) and asymptomatic groups (n = 26 per group) were assessed. The mean length an...
متن کاملThe Detection of Eagle’s Syndrome with Three-dimensional Multidetector Computerized Tomography (ct)
Objective: Eagle’s Syndrome is caused by elongation of the styloid process or ossification of the stylohyoid ligament. We aimed to evaluate the contribution of 3-Dimensional Multidetector CT findings on Eagle’s syndrome. Methodology: Three-Dimensional Multidetector CT were performed on 13 patients with Eagle’s syndrome. Maximum intensity projection (MIP) and volume rendering (VR) images having ...
متن کاملOssification of the stylohyoid ligament and ‘Eagle’s’ syndrome
‘Eagle’s’ syndrome is a rare condition in which an ossified stylohyoid ligament may endanger neural and vascular structures in the neck (Eagle, 1949, 1962; Rechtweg et al., 1998; Rodriguez-Vazquez et al., 2006; Chuang et al., 2007). Compression of one or other of these structures may give rise to symptoms including unilateral neck pain, dysphagia, otalgia and tinnitus (Kaufman et al., 1970; Omn...
متن کاملAsymptomatic bilateral elongated and mineralized stylohyoid complex: report of one case.
The stylohyoid process is a cylindrical bony structure surrounded by important anatomical structures including vessels and nerves. Calcification and elongation of the stylohyoid ligament complex over 30 mm may be associated with neck and facial pain, known as Eagle's syndrome. However, a bilateral ossified and elongated stylohyoid complex may be devoid of symptoms. We report a 79-year-old sympt...
متن کاملThree-dimensional CT of Eagle's syndrome.
This case report presents three-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) findings in the diagnosis of Eagle's syndrome that is characterized with an elongated styloid process or a calcified stylohyoid ligament causing craniofacial or cervical pain. We have performed 3D-CT in three patients suspected to have this condition. Coronal images were taken in two patients and axial images in one patient...
